Electrical Engineering Group Lead USA (m/f)
Responsibility
The Electrical Engineer – Group Lead is responsible for the execution of electrical designs from PV modules to utility point of interconnection on all North American commercial and utility scale solar projects. Projects range in size from 50kW to multi-megawatt utility scale. The role involves the oversight and management of design packages and a team of electrical engineers. It includes prioritizing and resourcing projects of varying sizes and scales; building, mentoring and coaching of an engineering team; and representing the Electrical Engineering team to all internal and external customers. The Group Lead of Electrical Engineering is expected to have a wide range of experience, varying from building industry and Code-based knowledge, to applied electrical engineering in DC and AC distribution. Candidates will have strong problem solving skills, being able to apply professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues and unexpected engineering barriers. Candidates will have strong design, communication, and creative problem solving skills.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO) THE FOLLOWING:
• Responsible for the oversight of project electrical design drawings complete with supporting calculations, including single line schematics, DC wiring schematics, electrical site plans, and equipment layouts
• Responsible for building a team of engineers scaled to the Phoenix Solar workload and project pipeline
• Oversee and manage a group of electrical design engineers to complete multiple projects. Manage several electrical design consultants to meet project workload
• Oversee the electrical engineering efforts to meet project development needs, including: site audits, identification of electrical design opportunities and constraints, preparation of proposal and project specification documents, evaluation and recommendation of major electrical components and preparation of permit applications
• Interaction with electric utilities to become familiar with specific codes to interconnect PV solar plants to the national grids, prepare and file interconnection applications
• Interaction with Phoenix Solar customers, representing Phoenix Solar as the subject matter expert in the electrical engineering design
• Interaction with existing and prospective vendors of major equipment, such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, electrical cable, etc.
• Develop equipment specifications for equipment procurement
• Evaluation of new commercial and utility PV industry products, including inverters and combiner boxes
• Interaction with electrical contractors on job sites to answer questions, review change requests, revise designs as needed to accommodate unanticipated field conditions, etc.
• Interaction with field inspectors and plan checkers to evaluate proposed design methodology, with thorough Code knowledge and application
• Responsible for professional development of electrical engineering team, including day to day feedback and performance reviews
Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer (PE), or equivalent education and experience with the ability to acquire an Electrical Engineering PE license
• Masters degree a plus
Experience:
• 10+ years experience in Power Systems Design
• Engineering management experience required
• PV Commercial and utility scale power industry experience preferred
Certification/Training:
• PE license required (Ca. and Az. preferred)
Business Tools:
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and generating detailed construction drawings required
• Proficient in power systems analysis software preferred

• Office environment
• Up to 20% domestic and international travel can be expected
OTHER SKILLS AND STYLE CRITICAL TO SUCCESS
• Thorough knowledge of the IEEE and NEC standards as they relate to commercial and industrial power systems design.
• Knowledge of NEC Article 690 preferred
• Knowledge of electrical design, materials and methods of installation in power systems
• Knowledge of European standards and codes is a plus
• Knowledge of distribution and/or transmission design is a plus
• Proficient in power systems analysis software is a plus
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and generating detailed construction drawings
• Ability to coordinate and manage group of engineers to meet project deadlines
• Ability to evaluate, hire and manage electrical engineers to build an effective team
• Highly organized and capable of working on multiple projects
• Good communication skills
