Carport Piadena
Under one roof: functionality and sustainability
The grounds of logistics company Altmann in Piadena in Italy are huge, covering around 13 hectares: room enough for up to 6,000 vehicles and trucks separated into four areas – expensive vehicles now all under a protecting roof with an eave height of 3.8 meters which carries 24,700 SOLARWATT crystalline modules producing electricity. This solution is
a clever synthesis of practical use and good return on investment or, quite simply, one of the world‘s largest solar carports.
As the EPC contractor commissioned by SOLARWATT PV Italia GmbH, Phoenix Solar was responsible for the planning and construction of the entire plant. A determinant factor
for awarding the contract to Phoenix Solar was the company‘s experience and know-how in building solar carports, along with its international competence. All very necessary as
the size of the project and the short construction phase of only 14 weeks were particularly challenging.
Despite partly bad weather and delays in the delivery of components, the roofing was completed in time before the end of the year. The solar carport not only shelters the new vehicles but also makes a contribution to climate protection. After all, this double-layer
shield, producing an annual energy yield of more than 7 million MWh, also supplies 1,600 families with green energy. There are plans to extend the carport to cover more of the area.
